Novak Djokovic looks at this stage a worthy favourite to take the crown in Flushing Meadows but with odds of only little better than evens available and plenty of tennis to be played between now and August, that doesn’t look a tempting prospect either. Instead then, today’s tennis betting tips are going to point you toward two relative outsiders who do represent risky bets but would also deliver stunning returns if they do put on a show in New York.
Australian duo Nick Kyrgios and Bernard Tomic are two young players who have both shown signs of reaching the very top of the world game in their young careers. Tomic has on occasion been hamstrung by off-court controversies but if he puts it together in New York, then the 150/1 which you can get on him right now could be a wonderful each-way shout. The slightly younger Kyrgios likely has a better chance at Flushing Meadows following his runs to the Wimbledon and Australian Open quarter finals and whilst his odds do reflect that somewhat, around 100/1 still looks very tempting.
The Women’s Draw
If Novak Djokovic is a strong favourite for the men’s draw at the US Open, then Serena Williams is viewed as a near certainty by many bookmakers if their antepost odds are anything to go by. You cannot get much better than 7/4 on the American taking yet another slam in the autumn and whilst that is entirely understandable, today’s tennis betting tips simply aren’t going to suggest such a short odds punt.
Instead then, and with Serena’s dominance at Flushing Meadows in mind, it makes sense to look for a good value each-way bet when it comes to the women’s draw. What that means is that you can disregard the selection of players including Sharapova, Kvitova and Azarenka whose odds are between 5/1 and 11/1 as they wouldn’t provide each-way value. A delve into the lower reaches of the market is therefore necessary.
When you do study the lower end of the market, you may be surprised to find the current world number twelve and a former US Open semi-finalist available at odds of around 66/1 but that is what you get in the shape of Angelique Kerber. The German may have had a slightly disappointing beginning to the year, but don’t be surprised if her odds are much shorter come the start of the tournament in New York.
