Second seed Roger Federer advanced to his second consecutive ATP World Tour 1000 final and will play David Ferrer for the Cincinnati Masters 2014 crown this Sunday.

The 33-year old Swiss, who eliminated Andy Murray the day before, always had an upper hand in the last 4 clash against the big-serving Milos Raonic. The fifth-seeded Canadian was broken as early as the opening service game, whilst in-form Roger did not drop a single point on his serve in the opener. He closed it out by adding another break and converting on the set point number one. His challenger posed more threat in the second set and FedEx was forced to defend a lone break point in the opening game, yet Raonic’s pressure faded as the set wore on. The 17-time Grand Slam titlist waited for his chance and grabbed it with both hands to break the opponent in the eighth game. Although he was stretched to deuce when serving for the match, he converted in second attempt to cross the finish line in less than seventy minutes of tennis. Federer won 6-2, 6-3 to beat the highest-ranked Canadian for the sixth time in as many encounters and confirm his candidacy for lifting the historic sixth Western and Southern Open trophy.

David Ferrer also had a rather easy day at the office against the surprise semi-finalist Julien Benneteau. The unseeded Frenchman got the better of the Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka on Friday, but was unable to endanger the Spanish number two on his way to the title clash. Sixth-seeded Ferrer only had one break point to rescue throughout the one-sided contest at the Center Court, whilst he converted on four out of ten occasions to break twice in each of the sets and send the rival packing by winning 6-3, 6-2. The 32-year old thus reached his debut Cincinnati final, but will have to come with up with something special against Federer to conquer a Masters series tournament for the second time in his career  – the Swiss was too high a hurdle for him in all previous fifteen matches on the tour, the last time in the quarter-final of Toronto just a week ago.
