POSPISIL

After an initial scare, it appears that Vasek Pospisil (Player Profile) will not be sidelined after suffering an ankle injury during Canada’s semifinal clash against Serbia. MRI results revealed that the Vancouver native did not suffer any muscle tears or ligament damage and will resume regular competition in “7-10 days.” The world no. 41 took part in a roller-coaster weekend at the Davis Cup semifinal encounter between Canada and Serbia. It was a historic moment for the Canadian team, which had never advanced past the second round of the Davis Cup in the Open Era. Sadly, their run was cut short by a Serbian team spear-headed by world no. 1 Novak Djokovic. Pospisil initially fell to Djokovic in the opening rubber but quickly rebounded the following day and played a remarkable five-set thriller with doubles partner Daniel Nestor to give Canada a 2-1 lead heading into the final day of the World Group semifinals. Djokovic would once again salvage Serbia’s hopes at another title with a straight sets victory over Canadian no. 1 Milos Raonic, which forced a deciding tie between Pospisil and Tipsarevic. It was during the opening set in the final match that Vasek suffered an ankle injury and required medial treatment during the set. While the Canadian no. 2 fought valiantly throughout the remainder of the match, he eventually lost in straight sets, ending Canada’s dream run in the Davis Cup tournament. It was later revealed that Pospisil would require an MRI to determine the damage done to his ankle. It has now been confirmed that the Rogers Cup semifinalist would resume training in uder two weeks following rehabilitation. Vasek revealed the news on his official twitter account:
