Roger Federer and Tomas Berdych threw out their unseeded opponents in straight sets and will meet in Dubai 2013 semifinal.

The clash of two experienced players ended with an expected Federer victory, the Swiss Maestro thus overcame unseeded Russian Nikolay Davydenko for the nineteenth time. Both of the sets followed an almost identical script: Davydenko opened a set with a hold, but was broken twice by 4-1 in each of them. The Russian resisted five set points when the five-time Dubai conqueror was serving for the set at 5-2, yet could not force another game after all.

Davydenko began the second set with a hold to love, but gifted a couple of break balls later on which was more than enough for the second seed to produce a double break cushion once again. He was less wasteful with his match balls though as he closed out the quarterfinal match with a hold to love and progressed with a 6-4, 6-4 end result. Federer won 84% of his first serve points and did not face any break ball threats during the match.

His semifinal opponent Berdych has also been playing in a great form this week, his quarterfinal victim was another Russian player Dmitry Tursunov. The crucial moment of the opener happened in the sixth game when the third seed Czech broke the deadlock to go 4-2 up and served the set out with a game to love few minutes later. He kept turning the screw on Tursunov in the second set, putting the outcome of the match beyond any doubt by 4-0 double break lead. The last few games were a formality for eight-time ATP title holder Berdych as he converted the first match ball and advanced to the semis with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph. Just like Federer, he was never confronted with a break ball.
