The top two players were not in action last week so the pack has closed
together a bit. Timothy Aerts of Belgium got in one more match at
the Switzerland #1 satellite, losing his opening match at the final
week, so he moves into sole possession of third place with a total
of 28 matches so far this year. Mariano Albert of Spain reached the
finals at the first
leg of the Spain #2 satellite and a promising young player from Germany,
Markus Bayer, continues to gain experience, reaching the qualifying round
at New
Zealand F2 and now has 27 matches along with Albert.

Andre Agassi finally lost a match, and it was in the first round of
Scottsdale
so he is now at 12-1. Marc Fornell of Spain saw his first action
of the year and made it count by taking the title at Spain
#2 week 1. So he starts off the year at a perfect 5-0.
Meanwhile, at the top of the rankings, Agassi and Lleyton Hewitt are alternating
titles again like last year. While Agassi lost his first match at
Scottsdale,
Hewitt won the title and is now 9-1. Hewitt will be in Indian
Wells this week while Agassi withdrew because of a shoulder injury.
